There are safe ways to do this, and then there are extreme measures that are not worth the danger. We're going to tell you the difference. To complete this How-To you will need:Driving skillsPatienceThe ability to withstand other drivers' rageA hybrid carWarning: Don't even think about tailgating big rigs to catch their drafts or cutting the engine and coasting in neutral. Getting brag-worthy mileage isn't worth risking your life.Step 1: Slow downStay within the speed limit. For every 5 miles per hour you drive above 55, your fuel efficiency is reduced by up to 10 percent.Step 2: Coast when you canCoast when you can. It uses no fuel.Tip: Try to park on hills, where you can get a rolling start.Step 3: Keep tires inflatedKeep your tires inflated at the maximum. The flatter the tire, the more it drags on the road.Tip: Don't do what some hypermilers do and over-inflate your tires; it could cause a blowout.Step 4: Use thin oilUse the thinnest oil recommended for your car, get regular oil changes, and have the air filter changed when it gets dirty.Step 5: Avoid trafficAvoid fuel-wasting stop-and-go driving by taking the road less traveled.Step 6: Insulate your hoodInstall hood insulation to keep the engine warm, when it operates most efficiently.Step 7: AC off and windows upKeep the AC off and the windows up when possible. Thanks for watching How To Be a Hypermiler! Try to park on the hills ? What if they are 100 miles away ?

Coasting doesn't use no fuel, if the engine is running, you are using fuel. You can start by ditching the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which only gets about 17 MPG.

@queenfrostine97 not always dude...apart from that i cant believe it...no what?if we turn the a/c on on our car after 2 minutes started the engine the car automatically stops strolling..that means the a/c want high amounts of energy..so that's hard to believe it..

Yeah that engine insulation sure is gonna do a hell of a difference........

for every 5mpg you go above 55 your fuel goes down 10%? lol, my dad was driving 150km/h one time and he was getting 50+mpg, and it was a diesel car, not a gay hybrid

@g4ebguy yeah for step 1, i have a VW TDI and so does my dad, i get over 50mpg and my dad gets 60+

i heard that keeping the air conditioner on uses less energy than having windows open. is that true?
azthundercloud (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
buy an audia5 with a diesel. you can drive like a pig and still get 30mpg and if you drive normal you can get 50mpg

@D0g63rt if you are coasting in a fuel injection car with the clutch engaged then the engine shuts off the injectors entirely. Going down hill with the car in gear and the clutch engaged uses no fuel whatsoever. If you were to knock it out of gear or dip the clutch then the engine will use a small amount of fuel to hold itself at idle.

@phdecora Most cars here in the UK have it.
