Many hypermilers tailgate to get better mpgs. I think that this practice is dangerous, and NEVER do it. A lot of people roll with the engine off in cars that have servo brakes and steering. This is dodgy as well. A Prius is a hybrid, and designed to be driven like this. I hypermile in a Renault 4. It doesn't have servo brakes or steering (or a catalyser) What does this mean? I have a very durable car, cheap and easy to repair when it infrequently goes wrong, and still does over 60 mpg

Talking all big behind your screen... You are lucky you don't live near me!

the p&G technique is in the speed range of 42mph down to 28mph..then you apply gas back up to 42mph..then feather..the ICE shuts off completely, anyway it can be dangerous on certrain roads. I only do it on 35mph or less roads, not on 45MPH+ but not always.sometimes I go 80 on the freeway and still get 43 mpg

i did this at first, but not really anymore, depends on the road. I just drive it anymore, and still get about 49mpg..good enough.

That's incorrect. The length of time the car is operating has little to do with rate of fuel consumption. A car travelling faster burns fuel at a much higher rate, mostly because as speed increases linearly drag force increases exponentially. I can vouch for this personally, as I've made dozens of 200-mile trips over the same route and paid attention to my fuel consumption over time. Drive slower, burn less fuel.

There are lots of things that could save petrol. I.e on the motorway or anywhere there is a reduction in speed limit. As soon as you catch a glimpse of the sign telling you to slow down from 70 to 50, you let off the gas and roll away your speed gradually instead of using the brakes. One of my personal favourites is to find the average speed of stop - start traffic. It is also nicer for the drivers behind you in that they select an appropriate gear instead of clutching and revving and pulling up

While it's true that going slower takes longer, going slower also significantly reduces drag on your vehicle and results in an overall far more efficient trip.

get real.... get a life what a douche

theyre not aware that by goin slower, the car is using less fuel but at the same time, its going to take them longer to reach their destination, which means that the car will have to run for longer and use more fuel and emit more gasses.

the prius is a quite a decent car-the new prius coming out later this year is extremely promising but their drivers ruin the prius's name!some of those idiots will go at 50km/h on an 80km/h road and slow everyone behind him down for the sake of conserving 0.01 litre of his fuel, not being aware that he/she is causing even more pollution by slowing all the other cars behind so that they are forced to step on the pedal for longer and emit more gasses. its not the prius thats slow, its their drivers
